I have a lifelong relationship with the power of plants and the natural world.  In this series, I seek to elevate the properties of the individual plant within its majestic habitat here in Appalachia.  

Monotropa uniflora is often called Ghost Pipe in these mountains.  It is a parasitic plant that uses a fungi that is mycorrhizal with trees.  Ghost pipe does not make chlorophyll but instead use the chlorophyll of trees with the help of the fungus.  A rare medicinal plant, needing protection from over harvesting, it sits centered within the painting, in reverence.
